Conditions

Travelers on Steamrail trains are bound by Steamrail's standard conditions of travel. Acceptance of a ticket is deemed an acceptance of these regulations. While we endeavour to operate this tour as advertised, it may be necessary to alter or cancel all or part of the tour due to circumstances beyond our control. On days declared to be of high fire danger and/or Total Fire Ban, the train will be hauled by one of Steamrail's heritage diesel locomotives. We cannot be liable for any cost incurred by you arising from any late running of this tour.

Adults must take responsibility at all times for infants and other persons in their care.

Refunds

Steamrail will offer refunds if you are unable to travel due to illness or other serious cause, under the following circumstances set out below:-

  • Where the cancellation is made more than 14 days before the date of departure – Full refund of all amounts charged.
  • Where the cancellation is made any time between 14 days and 7 days before the date of departure – Refund of 50 per cent of the amount charged.
  • Where the cancellation is made any time between 6 days and 1 day before the date of departure – Refund of 25 per cent of the amount charged.
  • Where cancellation is made on the day of departure – No refund is allowed.

If on the day of departure through no fault of Steamrail a passenger fails to board the scheduled service this will be treated as a cancellation by the person making the booking and no refund will be provided.

In these circumstances Steamrail may allocate the booking to someone else without further notice to the person who was booked on the service.

Where it is necessary for a service to be cancelled prior to its scheduled date of operation by Steamrail due to factors beyond its control passengers who are booked on the service will be offered the option to:

  • Rebook on an alternate service of the same value in lieu of any refund.
  • Receive a full refund of the fare paid.

Where a refund is payable to a passenger it may take up to 28 days for this to be received due to the need for the application to be processed.

When bookings are made for weekend tours, given that the fares involved are substantial it is recommended that passengers give consideration to taking out travel insurance at the time of their making a booking. Such action should ensure that any person making a booking is not out of pocket in case they are unable to travel and are not entitled to a refund from Steamrail.

Companion Card Holders

Steamrail Victoria is a not for profit volunteer organisation. All proceeds from tours, goes into the restoration and maintenance of our rollingstock and other associated costs, as such Steamrail Victoria is not subscribed to the Companion Card program. However, we have made allowances within our fare structure under the following circumstances set out below:-

  • On Day Excursions and Weekender Tours, if a passenger is the holder of a Companion Card the companion will travel at a fare equal to the fare charged to the holder of the Companion Card regardless of their eligibility for that particular fare.  The companion must be fit to complete all the duties of a travel carer including being able to assist with all aspects of personal care.
  • In the case of the holder of a Companion Card travelling on a Shuttle Service (short train ride), their companion will be eligible to travel free on the service when accompanying the holder of the Companion Card, subject to the availability of seats.

Important Information

Regional Fast Rail

Due to circumstances beyond Steamrail's control, all Steamrail trains operating on the Regional Fast Rail Network (Geelong, Traralgon, Bendigo and Ballarat) are restricted to 80km/h running. This can from time to time have an impact on operating tours along these lines. V/Line Network Access operational needs can from time to time affect the operation of various Steamrail tours.

Fire Restrictions

Fire Restrictions can be applied across most areas of Victoria by CFA, when fire danger is high. Typically this is over the summer period of November through to April. Restrictions are applied in small areas at a time. View a map of current restrictions across Victorian municipalities.

Elecrail

Elecrail still has no trips planned at this stage, but talks are progressing with the goal of getting Elecrail operational again. Hopefully it will not be long until Elecrail is back on the rails.
